The Department of Physics of ETH Zurich (www.phys.ethz.ch) invites applications for a Professorship / Assistant Professorship (Tenure Track) in Mathematical Physics.
The Department offers a stimulating environment in mathematical, theoretical, and computational physics, as well as in experimental high energy physics, condensed matter physics, quantum optics, astrophysics, and neuroinformatics. Furthermore, ETH Zurich has a thriving Department of Mathematics.
The successful candidate should sustain a strong research program in some area of mathematical physics, for example in the context of statistical physics, many-body theory, quantum field theory, or string theory. Teaching duties involve the theoretical physics curriculum at the undergraduate level and advanced courses in the Master’s program. The new professor will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses (German) and graduate level courses (English).
Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. The initial appointment is for four years with the possibility of renewal for an additional two-year period and promotion to a permanent position. ETH Zurich offers substantial support associated with this appointment.
Please submit your application together with a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a brief statement of present and future research interests to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Ralph Eichler, ETH Zurich, Raemistrasse 101, 8092 Zurich, Switzerland, no later than December 15, 2009. With a view toward increasing the number of female professors, ETH Zurich specifically encourages qualified female candidates to apply.
